Traces of My Ancestors II. 2018.
Tracing paper, frames, pillows, and wireless audio speakers.
This site-specific installation, exhibited at Santa Rosa Monastery in Italy, was shown as part of an exhibit titled "A Call to Origins". As we enter the room, we find ourselves in a maze of frames, showing transparent paper with traditional, fokloric Balkan patterns.
Each frame offers a window peek to the times of the ancestors. While referencing a specific geographic region, the patterns nonetheless speak to a universal sense of tradition- placing viewers into connection with our own personal myth.
The largest frame, placed in front of an alcove, becomes the passageway to a hidden, personal corner. Equipped with two pillows emitting drumming sounds, we are invited into the space of dreams where future, past and present intermingle.
